Objectives of USTOP
Improved Capacity
Decrease mortality related to trauma, decrease in disability secondary to orthopaedic trauma including early recovery, prevention of infections, prevention of unions/ malunions. Decrease infection rate. Decrease the length of hospital stay.
Increased Awareness
Increase in funding from the Ministry of Health to equip hospitals and eventually health centers with required resources to face the challenges of orthopaedic trauma. Increased awareness of other Ugandan ministries to fully realize the social context of this problem and allocate proper resources to increase the safety on roadways, in the workplace, etc.
Increased Consensus
For project of this magnitude to be successful, we will rely on the active participation of staff and faculty of Makerere University and Mulago Hospital. A series of conferences, evaluations and focus group meetings will allow us to gauge the alignment of our interests during the length of this project.
