Dr. Gilbart is originally from Toronto, and completed his M.D. at the
University of Toronto in 1995. Following this he completed his orthopaedic
surgery residency training at the University of Toronto. During his
orthopaedic surgery training he completed the Surgeon Scientist Program
at the University of Toronto, and completed a Masters degree in Education.
He graduated from the University of Toronto orthopaedic surgery training
program in 2002. Following completion of the Royal College of Physicians
and Surgeons of Canada fellowship examinations in Orthopaedic Surgery,
Dr. Gilbart spent two years performing subspecialty orthopaedic surgery
training in sports medicine and advanced arthroscopic surgical techniques
for the knee, shoulder, elbow, and hip joints. He completed the one
year Intercontinental Shoulder Fellowship at the University of Zurich
Switzerland and at Harvard University in Boston. Dr. Gilbart then completed
the one year sports medicine fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Gilbart is currently appointed as an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic
Surgery at the University of British Columbia, with cross-appointment
to the Division of Athletic Injuries and Arthroscopy and the Division
of Upper Extremity Surgery in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
His clinical practice is based at the Allan McGavin Sports Medicine
Centre and his operative practice is based at Vancouver Acute –
UBC Hospital site. Dr. Gilbart is interested in research involving the
use of simulation and teaching methods for residents to acquire proficient
surgical skill both inside and outside the operating room. His clinical
practice is dedicated to disorders of the knee, shoulder, elbow and
hip. |
